Electricity charges in the Park

When the wind is blowing we, New Findhorn Directions Ltd (NFD), purchase and consume renewable energy generated by the four wind turbines operated on our behalf by Findhorn Wind Park Ltd (FWP).

When there is no wind FWP purchases energy from Scottish Hydro Electric on behalf of NFD to ensure a continuous supply.

FWP charges NFD the same rate per unit as Scottish Hydro Electric* charges locally using a two tariff system described as 'Standard energy' (the Day rate) and 'Heating control energy' (the Night rate). In addition, there are various other taxes and standing charges payable by NFD.

NFD, however operates a three tariff system; Standard, Day and Night.
This allows people the choice of either paying one ‘Standard’ rate for all their electricity or paying both a ‘Day’ and ‘Night’ rate (which divides up their usage).
For NFD to offer a ‘Standard’ rate a formula is used to calculate all the electricity bought and convert it from ‘two’ into ‘three’ rates. There is no mark-up used in this calculation.

In addition NFD adds 'Distribution' and 'Availability' charges as described below.

*Please note that any changes implemented by Scotiish Hydro-Electric are subject to a three-month time lag before they impact the bills issued by NFD.

Your NFD bill Explained
The monthly electricity invoice that you receive from NFD is laid out as follows:
 
  Your invoice will have either three lines of units + charges
  or five lines (if you have a Day & Night rate supply) of units + charges.

  Each line is labelled 'electricity'.

  The first line shows the amount of units consumed during the month
  and the charge (units used multiplied by the unit price).

  The second line, 'Distribution charge', shows the cost of delivering
  electricity to you which is also calculated at a per/units used price.
  As a private estate we provide and maintain our own network of distribution cables and the
  distribution charge is set up to contribute to these costs.

  The third line, 'Availability charge', is a fixed monthly charge and does not vary with the number of electricity
  units used. This covers the cost of administration.
